a comliment a wiggle and a wink

POUNDING THE PAVEMENT with her sneakers Mrs.Embers slowed to a comfortable pace as she neared the coffee shoppee. The coffee shoppee was the end of the road to her daily jogging routine and she always ordered a London fog when there. You could tell she had a vigorous routine from her rough appearance, her hair in a bun and the wind torn stray hairs in a disarray. Her outfit was less than flattering with the overly baggy pleated elastic waste and knee stretched men's jogging pants. her long-sleeve t-shirt had freshly made sweat stains that covered the old ones in the usual places. Her only reason for being in the coffee shoppee was to reward herself with a rich piping cup of London fog after a challenging routine.

But today was different today she was attractive. Today Mrs.Embers was in lulu lemon yoga pants, that show the years of paid off effort of regular exercise to her figure. The pants a gift from her daughter for her birthday, a much needed gift to the opinion of the coffee shop staff. Even her hair was better, for it was all hidden in a ponytail hanging out of a base ball cap. And as for the ugly longsleave t-shirt with sweat stains, gone, replaced with a sleeveless spaghetti strapped tank top also from lulu lemon. She even had brand new sneakers to replace the LA.gear pink gilled ones she had since the 80's.

One person in particular took notice of Mrs.Embers appearance, Mr.Drisby, a man the coffee shoppee nicknamed "silver fox". An older gentlemen not short of looks in any department, he came in like clock work everyday to have his coffee and do his crossword puzzle before he had to go to work at the law firm he was partners in. Ever morning he came in it was the same, the women all took there seats to eye goggle and say silly giggle filled greetings as he passed by. This annoyed him to no end because they never gave him just a regular hello and left him alone. The only person he did like was Mrs.Embers because she never bothered him and he always took the time to say hi to her when she came in, and it drove the women nuts with jealousy when he did. In their opinion she looked like a sweaty hobo and they never said hi to her because of it.

Mr.Drisby always had a giggle at the sneers the other women would give her when he nodded a respectful greeting to her in the morning as she wore the less than appealing sports wear. But today he felt she earned some respect from the snobs of the city and he approached her at the counter.

"Mrs. Embers consider your tea on me today, a woman as fine a shape as you can't afford to buy her own drinks when she spent her money on proper fitting athletic wear, that you look incredible in by the way."

Mrs.Embers was taken back by the compliment. The chubby miss smith was adding her sugar twin to her coffee with her over eaters group when she looked over at the situation in distaste signalling the others to situation at hand.

"well Mr.drisby I had no intention of buying myself such things I was fine with what I had but my daughter threw out my old clothes and bought me these new ones. Seems she was not a fan of my wardrobe,so I can afford my drink no worries."

Mr.Drisby noticed the disapproving looks of the other women and decided to put a knot in there stockings

"NO Mrs.Embers today you've earned a cup of tea and breakfast on me, a woman who keeps a figure as lovely as yours should have a reward for her efforts."

Smiling and turning red from the attention she didn't know quite what to do with, Mrs. Embers accepted gracefully and went to her usual table. She enjoyed her breakfast and as she left the coffee shop Mr.drisby opened the door for her and walked her out to her car. unfortunately for the first time she caught the reflection of the ladies watching inside. To her amazement she watch dirty looks towards her and felt overly self conscious and hurt, what the hell did she do to them.

Mr. drisby caught the reaction of both parties and decided to intervene

"Mrs. embers everyday those women bother me with gossip dribble and sneer at you because you don't, it's not really anything to worry yourself about, pointless really."

So Mrs.Embers didn't bother with the women's reactions to her after that. But she did walk by them every morning and when she did she added a little wiggle which humoured Mr .Drisby to no end which he responded with a wink.
